The island of Cephalonia is famous for its wines and grapes, and first of all the grape variety Robola grown in the Omala valley. This place supplies superior grade grapes to all the wineries on the island, which produce dry white wine ROBOLA with a bouquet of fruit and flowers.
During winter time, islanders harvest olives, and thanks to hand harvesting the island produces one of the best brands of extra virgin olive oil.
Hard is the work of beekeepers who for generations have been making us a delicious present of sweet-scented honey made of thyme or the rare Cephalonian black fir-tree.
The island abounds in cheese dairies, which adhere to thousand-year old traditions of cheese making and produce world famous varieties of cheeses Kefalotyri, Feta, sweet and salty curd cheeses, Ladotyri, etc.
Local cuisine
Cephalonian traditional cuisine emphasizes on dishes of fresh vegetables, local varieties of meat, with lashings of the purest olive oil produced locally.
We recommend that you taste the famous Aliada - Skordalia with boiled vegetables, Kreatopita, Bakalaopita, rabbit in sauce as well as fresh fish at seafront restaurants of the island.
